This website is a repository and augmentation for the research projects and publications of Tatsuya Togashi (Marine Biosystems Research Center, Chiba University, Japan), Paul Cox, and John Bartelt (Institute for Ethnomedicine, National Tropical Botanical Gardens, Kauai, HI).

Our research involves simulation and modeling studies of underwater fertilization dynamics in marine green sea algae and the investigation of evolutionary origins of anisogamy.

Isogamous or slightly anisogamous marine green algae growing at very high densities in the upper intertidal zones at our field study site in Kamogawa City, Chiba Prefecture, Japan (35°06’N, 140°06’E)
